In the pre-historic Philippines, THE UMALOHOKANS, the predecessors of social media managers of today, were commissioned by the Datus (barangay chieftains) to make announcements throughout the land.
These town criers make their rounds far and wide to let the people know about the new laws that the Datus have made.
Maria (aka “Immigrant Momsense”) is a naturally inquisitive creature and is now fancying herself as AN UMALOHOKAN.
However, in this case, NO ONE AUTHORIZED Maria to spew all this information (aka MOMSENSE). No Datus or chieftains. No one. But she feels that she must! Onward to a self-proclaimed mission.
A Jill-of-Many-Trades but only Master-of-Her-Own-Story, you, dear readers, must take all her Unauthorized Momsense with a spoonful of salt.
(You cannot fully trust someone who talks about herself in the third person)

I am the Immigrant Mom who is churning out these MOMSENSE, albeit UNAUTHORIZED.
Welcome to my corner of the internet! I am thrilled that you are reading this.
At first, immigrating to another country is exciting – like a super extended vacation:
And then reality and anxiety set in. This is the NEW NORMAL!!! My family and I were barely prepared.
So, we created this site 🧐 .
For almost two decades of waiting for the visa, one would think that we had plenty of time to prepare.
Nope. Far from it.
We went on with our normal lives, calloused by the long wait time, we became skeptics. Que sera, sera.
Am I really unprepared? Who was I before I became an immigrant?

Yes. Been there, done those.
Yet despite these “hats” of personal experiences, I was not prepared for many things when we came over:

I tried to prepare. We tried, as a family.
Years ago, the only available information for my family and I were articles from the internet that were clinical, generic, and generalized.
There were little to none of the ones I was looking for: The painfully honest, specific, first-person articles from real people whose boots were on the ground.
Now that I, myself, am a pair of boots on the ground, it is my primary intent to fill the gap. I hope to help provide information that will be useful to new immigrants (preferably to those who are still preparing to migrate) like I was once before.
The majority of the posts in this site are about THINGS I WISH I HAVE KNOWN BEFORE COMING OVER.
I hope that you, the new immigrant reader, may resonate with the topics in this site.
Because you need to know.

Almost a decade into this journey and my family and I are still learning – some are done by trial and error, and some are done through the highly unscientific method of researching online.
But mostly, we learn from fellow immigrants’ experiences.
Word of caution: Do not make the same mistakes we did: We used to observe other immigrants and their situations AND applied the same methods they used as-is, hoping these will work on us, too.
Every experience is unique, and we have to tailor-fit it to our own situation.
In due time, little by little, collectively as a family and individually, too, we slowly settle and adapt to things and circumstances.
We have to remind ourselves, almost every time, that we are here to learn and try to merge and not to impose what we are in this society.

Learning is a lifelong journey, whether we are immigrants or not. And it is best done when there is more knowledge to go around.
In the spirit of sharing knowledge to enrich and help equip each other, and the other new and incoming immigrants, I invite you to connect with us and let us build a community.
We, (my team and I) are thinking of other avenues where we could share knowledge better and faster.
One of these things is an email newsletter and we want you not to miss a post or an update.
Thank you for stopping by.

Maria is just a chatterbox (on a mission.😋)
NO ONE AUTHORIZED her to spew all this MOMSENSE, but she is a complicated cat and so she feels that she must. Be advised and take a spoonful of salt for every opinionated post you read here. And please, please consult a professional for individualized advice on life-altering decisions.
